The Torrione
It used to be the house of the praetor of the county of Osteno, Cima and Valle d’Intelvi (15th century). Also called “Turascion”, the building is just attached to the half-tumbledown tower committed to host the jail(still in use during napoleon era). The judge of the county (praetor) dwelled in Osteno, where the jail and the courthouse had place. The courthouse has been on duty for four hundred years, beginning on the 15th century.
Inside the premises, the walls are so thick that walking from a room to the other is just like walking along a corridor. On the first floor there is a charming fireplace, close to a window, so that anyone can enjoy the view of the fire and the lake in just one glance.
The building was the set of the movie “Piccolo mondo antico”(Little ancient world), director Cinzia TH Torrini, inspired by the novel of Antonio Fogazzaro.
